W01 Overview of ArcGIS - Orientation Lab (1)

In the first lab we were given an overview of ArcGIS Pro and some of its basic functions. In the overview we covered the layout of ArcGIS Pro. We also learned how to upload data by making file connections and then how to navigate through that data once it is in the active view. We then interacted with the software by making a map. In the map we added a base map and then added colored layers for different countries and big black dots for major cities throughout the world. I will say that this lab really showed me how important file management is when it comes to this software. I was confused at times when creating fodders and adding data to them. I ended up making the mistake of labeling a folder wrongly. Once I figured this out, I was already mostly done with the lab, so I just went back and changed the file name. I then learned that this is a bad idea, because I changed the name of the folder in messed up the file path. This resulted in the data from the file connections I made to have error codes next to them. Luckily, I noticed this and was quickly able to fix the issue. Overall, I think this was a good introduction to using ArcGIS Pro and I am looking forward to expanding on this experience.
